One more question about “Friends”, please!!

The girls are discussing the guys and Phoebe calls Ross smooth.

What does she mean by that?

I‘ve read that “smooth” can mean:

“to be skilled at social interactions, to be capable of charming others and persuading them to see your point of view or comply with your wishes with seemingly little effort or opposition”.

Is it this case? Ot it has a couple of more meanings? Anxious

Thank you in advance!

Smooth can be deceitful. Imagine slipping on a smooth part of the concrete surface in rainy condition on a steep incline. Smooth concrete surface can cause a slip.
It might be beneficial to analyse law cases where an alleged victim claimed broken bones in the result of a slip on a smooth surface. Cleaners in shopping malls can be interested in deriving profit from a settlement awarded to the person injured.

Hello.
"Smooth" when referring to a person, usually means "charming" and "having good social skills".
However it DOES have the implication that the intention behind the person's communication may not be good.
As taurine says, "maybe deceitful".

The definition does not specify this, but "to be able to charm people and persuade them to do what you want" does not always mean "to persuade them to do the right thing" or "to do what is best for the other person".

One person may be described as 'smooth' if he is able to communicate well and is good company - but I think the more common meaning is able to communicate well and have others do things they would not normally do by their own choice.

"Con men" - people who make money by tricking people into giving them money - are often called "smooth".

One point which you may have understood now you have the meaning.

[He is not smarmy and deceitful, so that doesn't apply here.]

But he is also not a skillful charmer when it comes to women!
In another context I would assume this was being sarcastic, and they actually mean the opposite - that when he is attracted to a woman he makes a complete idiot of himself and is not effortlessly charming and debonair! In fact they steamroller him.

But this being Phoebe, I guess this is just pointing out how odd she is. She genuinely thinks Ross is a charming and suave man, oozing sexual confidence and charisma. Which he so clearly isn't! Not in anyone else's opinion.
(He is nice, but he is not smooth)

Yes and somehow Phoebe thinks quite well of Joey who is a smooth talking seducer of women.

I lack the imagination for a witty signature.
