Tobacco leaves which have been partly stripped in order to remove the petiole must be regarded as tobacco which has been cut or otherwise split, within the meaning of Article 5(1)(a) of Directive 2011/64, which contains the list of manufactured tobacco products.

I know that Spinach beet can have pink petiole and medium or dark green leaf blade. I think that if tobacco leaves have pink petiole, then, by law they must be removed if are to be used for tobacco product manufacture. And this is good. Remove pink petiole.

If we were more in tune with nature, this would be a very natural part of our vocabulary, but I don't think I've ever known the word, "petiole."
