used to/would #2 Options

Hello respected teachers,


Would 'would' be wrong instead of 'used to' in the following?

When he was very young, Gerald used to spend all his spare time collecting birds.

The custom of speaking is the original and only just standard of any language. Joseph Priestly- Rudiments of EG, 1761.

d'oh! Think Pray My neighbor used to come over to visit me every day.

Now my neighbor decided that she would choose to visit me as her #2 priority.Dancing Applause Anxious

Hi! You don't appear rude at all!

I think 'would' would be perfectly good in that sentence.

It sounds a little more formal, but not hugely so.
