Dead Malls

Dead malls are shopping centers with high vacancy rates or low consumer traffic. Due to changes in the department store industry, many formerly popular malls have been left without an "anchor" store, causing other retailers to fail. Since newer "big box" chains typically prefer to occupy their own free-standing buildings, malls' anchor store spaces are being left vacant, and the malls then slowly "die." Though being short of money is one of the main reasons for dead malls, a good percentage of people just go to mall to take a walk, at least in A-class malls in Brazil.

Re: "Dead Malls" - Raleigh, NC just broke ground for a type of one-stop-shop for homeless & at-risk homeless folks. This, after years of discussions, meetings, collaborations. This is real progress in beginning to apply more than a bandaid to a growing homeless issue. A Dead Mall can become a beacon for not just homeless, but for countless collaborating entities, including employers & training programs. Investment in our greatest resource - people - has a long-term benefit. If more investers will apply a longer vision of return, ALL will benefit. It can be done & is being done in various cities across this nation. Thanks

Dead mall may be resulted by a bad commercial decision. Like they have not really put enough value on market research, that leads to overration over the the power of consumption.
