I have read the following article in columbus dispatch sports article
As Nick Foligno whipped a high shot past Senators goaltender Craig Anderson, coach John Tortorella took two steps and unleashed a vigorous fist pump.
Can someone explains to me the meaning of whip and pump please.

Definition of whip. whipped; whipping. transitive verb. 1 : to take, pull, snatch, jerk, or otherwise move very quickly and forcefully. whipped out his gun.
