D-Day, June 6, 1944. Democracy and freedom were hard earned - we need to protect them still.

The timeline in your link is very good. With so much time between us and them it has become easy (here in the US) to forget.

I have distant relatives that fought on both sides, but even with ancestry.com and other similar tools both sides of my family have generally lost this knowledge.

All 5 of my mother's brothers were veterans of WWII, 4 were in the Navy, two each in the Pacific, and Atlantic, one in the Army and went from Normandy to Berlin. My dad was a Msgt in the Marines, and my mother a Navy nurse in the Pacific.

The younger generations today have no idea what unrestrained nationalism can do to the world.

Question authority. How do you know, that you know, what you know?
