Mark's height is 5cm; James's 10cm; Pan's 15cm. How to compare these difference using the word double, triple, and one?

1. Mark is one size.
2. James is double sized.
3. Pan is triple sized.
4. James is double in size than Mark.

They all sound wrong, but I don't know what are correctly used.

1. Mark is one size.
2. James is twice Mark's size.
3. Pan is three times Mark's size.
4. James is twice the size of Mark.

Forcing the use of the words double, triple, and one does not result in the best grammar. Why do that?

One could make a grammatical sentence, but it would be longer - so not very common.
It is the number that is double or triple, not the person.

1. Mark is one height.
2. James's size is double Mark's height. - this sounds fairly OK.
3. Pan's height is triple Mark's height. - for some reason, I don't like this one.
4. James is twice the size of Mark.

I think it sounds weird because "size" doesn't usually refer to height. If someone is the same 'size' it refers to their body measurements. Someone being double the size of someone else would be overweight. Someone three times the size would be obese. It hasn't anything to do with their height.

(Also, someone who was triple someone's height would be an absolute giant (unless the person they were being compared to was a toddler!) and perhaps that's also why it sounds strange - it isn't really logical.)

In AmE, we often use size to indicate any measurement once it is clear which dimension we are speaking about.

Shoes might be length and width, but a bolt might be just length, but could also be thread count per inch, or diameter.
