Hi. Can you help me choose proper meaning of word "tight". I've looked up in TFD but couldn't choose.
The text in my book is

She hadn't published a new book in a while, and I figured that was one of the reasons things were tight at home.

I guess by "things were tight' they mean "there was strained atmosphere", but let's see what native speakers feel about it.

It just means that there wasn't much money - they led a frugal life.

I took it as money, also. Their budget was tight because she hasn't published lately

With the complete context, it would be easier to get the exact meaning.

However, when I read the sentence (before reading others' comments), I felt it referred either to lack of money or lack of time. We may have a tight budget or a tight schedule.
